Ketosis is basically when your body burns fat for fuel. It’s technically a metabolic state, but in easy to understand terms: Your body burns what it has the most of. When you’re eating a “normal” diet, which happens to be higher in carbs, your body burns glucose (sugar) for energy. So all the extra fat you’re carrying around just sits there.
Wrong. Not just a no, but a HELL no. I cannot believe how just unappetizing and disgusting that soda was. After decades of drinking soda on a daily basis, I was convinced it was delicious. And now, only a little over a week of keto, and I can barely stomach the stuff.
We’re also going to keep it simple here. Most of the time, it’ll be salad and meat, slathered in high fat dressings and calling it a day. We don’t want to get too rowdy here. You can use leftover meat from previous nights or use easy accessible canned chicken/fish. If you do use canned meats, try to read the labels and get the one that uses the least (or no) additives!
Use a Magnesium Supplement: Unless you are experiencing diarrhea, a magnesium supplement can work great for helping balance electrolytes and hydration levels. As you can see, magnesium can help keto-adaptation in many ways. Using 1 gram of the L-threonate form 3x daily is my general recommendation. If diarrhea occurs, lower to once or twice a day until it subsides.
Cups made of bacon are something I never knew I needed. Since you can’t have bread on keto, finding a vessel for a BLT becomes a fun challenge. This BLT comes in the form of a chicken salad, using chicken as an added protein. The mayonnaise and avocado make the chicken salad creamy and adds delicious fat. When you eat foods high in carbohydrates and fat, your body naturally produces glucose. Carbohydrates are the easiest thing for the body to process, and therefore it will use them first – resulting in the excess fats to be stored immediately. In turn, this causes weight gain and health problems that are associated with high fat, high carbohydrate diets (NOT keto).
This form rotates ketogenic days with high carb days, usually five ketogenic days followed by two high carb days. Sometimes referred to as ketogenic carb cycling, this version of the keto diet can help maximize fat loss and build muscle.
For most people, eating less than 20g of net carbs a day will get them on track for ketosis within a matter of days. To ensure the process is sped up some you should aim for less than 15g of net carbs daily.
Finally, the goals between the two diets vary. The goal of keto is to enter ketosis, weaning your body off of burning glucose for fuel long-term. With a low carb diet, you may never enter ketosis. In fact, some diets cut out carbs for just a short while, then add them back in.

A: Your protein macro is a goal and you should hit it everyday. Feel free to even exceed it. We need protein to preserve our muscle mass. People are worried about gluconeogenesis where excess protein is converted to glucose – however this rarely happens unless you are eating say, a whole cow. Further, GNG is demand driven, not supply driven, meaning it will only occur when your body needs to do so, not by how much protein you feed it.

What’s more, coffee and tea drinkers have been shown to have a significantly reduced risk of diabetes. In fact, those with the highest coffee and tea intakes have the lowest risk of developing diabetes (86, 87).
Glucose will always be your body’s preferred energy source. When glucose is present, your body will resist burning fat. By removing carbohydrates and replacing them with fat, you are forcing your body to burn that fat for fuel.
I use my vitamix. I tried using my magic bullet but it’s been leaking with hot coffee and sprays all over the place. My vitamix was made for hot liquids so I just use that even though it’s much larger than the magic bullet.

A: Ketostix don’t measure nutritional ketosis and it is an inaccurate method to measure your ketone levels. If your body is used to using ketones effectively, you won’t be peeing excess ketones out. On the other hand, some people register dark purple on ketostix even after a carb load because the body is just dumping all the ketones out when you’re kicked out. I have never measured my ketone levels with any method as I don’t see the need to chase ketone numbers. I know I’m in ketosis if I stay under 20g net carbs and when I’m still feeling great.
With that being said, there are of course days that are very hard for me, in particular my days off of work. It seems like every second Im thinking about a carb & sugar filled meal and even as im typing I am craving something that I would normally eat when not following a Keto lifestyle. This is not a normal craving where my taste buds are buzzing or im swallowing just thinking about said food. This craving is pure mental, where I simply remember the taste of a pasta or dessert I ate months ago.
