Finally are there any strategies you can recommend for someone like myself who deals with chronic sleep debt via jet lag and night work schedules that I can further address with supplements and/or a Keto lifestyle. I also do IF but am a little stumped as to how to proceed when I’m dealing in multiple time zones.
You may notice that if you’re an avid gym goer, you lost some strength and endurance. A temporary decrease in physical performance is typical. Once your body becomes keto-adapted, your body will be able to fully utilize fat as its primary source of energy.
I use my vitamix. I tried using my magic bullet but it’s been leaking with hot coffee and sprays all over the place. My vitamix was made for hot liquids so I just use that even though it’s much larger than the magic bullet.
I thought I would post this progress comparison photo my wife put together. I’m far from done my journey but I feel that I am certainly over half way. Thank you /r/keto for all of your kindness and support through this time.
One of the best ways to get your body keto adapted quickly is through the use of exogenous ketones. Exogenous ketones are a supplemental form of ketones that are identical to the ketone bodies (Beta-hydroxybutyrate or BHB) that our body makes.
Could substituting the coffee with Teecino “herbal coffee” be equally beneficial? Teecino is very coffee-tasting without bitterness, is caffeine-free, and non-acidic. It’s perfect substitute for that something warm in your mug in the AM 🙂 Just curious. Thanks.
Use Organic Broths: Sipping on broths throughout the day is a great way to stay hydrated while also getting additional minerals and amino acids into your system. Try a good organic, free-range or pasture-raised chicken or beef broth. This can be a traditional broth or even bone broth.
Add exercise in. It’s a known fact that exercise is healthy. If you want to get the most out of your ketogenic diet, consider adding in 20-30 minutes of exercise a day. Even just a small walk can help regulate weight loss and blood sugar levels.
Insulin resistance is the reason why people suffer from Type II diabetes. The ketogenic diet helps people lower their insulin levels to healthy ranges so that they are no longer in the group of people that are on the cusp of acquiring diabetes.

If you are trying to lose weight and you’re stuck at a weight loss plateau, try skipping BPC for a few days. While for some people BPC helps suppress hunger, others may end up eating extra calories. Keep in mind that calories do count and a cup of BPC is at least 200 calories (kcal).
“In the beginning, I was terribly worried that I would lose muscle mass because of the low protein intake,” he says. “But, I lost absolutely no muscle and was able to add lean mass to my physique. How is this possible? It’s because ketones have a ‘protein sparing’ effect. So tons of protein is not necessary.”
Spinach has been shown to protect heart health and reduce the risk of common eye diseases. It also provides tons of vitamins and minerals, most noticeably about ten times the recommended about of vitamin K.
Putting your body into ketosis is a result of eating a ketogenic diet. It typically takes a few days (4 to 7) of low-carb, high-fat eating for your body to burn through all the glucose and enter ketosis. To keep your body burning fats, you need to keep your carb intake to around 20 grams a day. The fewer the better, because eating too many carbs can knock you out of the metabolic state.
The first question to ask yourself is: am I testing my ketone levels? Many other Ketonians make this mistake for a long time before realizing that it’s the best way to reach new heights and performance.
Counting net carbs is more critical than counting calories on a ketogenic diet, but alcohol is the exception to the rule. Alcohol contains 100 percent empty calories and you can easily drink a meal’s worth of calories without realizing you are over your limit.
Option 2: Spread some cream cheese between two cucumber slices. “Cucumber is a great low-carb veggie that works well combined with high-fat cream cheese for a satisfying, keto-friendly snack,” says Dr. Axe.
As you move on to Week 2 and beyond, take a look ahead. Some of the items you bought in Week 1 will need to be restocked. Whether it’s beef, chicken, or some kind of vegetables. In fact, you’ll be going through a lot of spinach on this meal plan – so make sure you keep your pantry restocked!
Weight Loss – This is the reason most people start a ketogenic diet, and for good reason. Transitioning to running on fat will greatly aid in weight loss as well as make intuitive eating easier. Here is an interesting study on the Ketogenic Diet Vs. Calorie Restriction.
Now, if you’re the kind of person that can’t fast then you can go back and follow week 2 again. That’s no big deal. Though fasting does take some time for the body to get used to, so I suggest putting your best efforts into it. Not only are the health benefits fantastic, the self-control that you gain from doing so is really a great thing.
for more options, try my Keto Egg Coffee which includes additional ingredients such as raw pastured egg yolks, collagen and coconut milk. This coffee is creamy, delicious, and filling. Just one cup will help you stay full for longer!
In fact, you should go overboard with the salt – salt everything! Sodium will help with water retention and help replenish the electrolytes. For most, this temporary groggy feeling is the biggest danger you’re going to face. It’s called the “Keto Flu.”
Yams and potatoes (white, red, sweet, etc.) — sweet potatoes have the least carbs, about 10 net grams per 1/2 potato; Yams and white potatoes can have much more, about 13–25 net grams per 1/2 potato/yam cooked
Even as a short-term solution, ketosis may help improve other blood sugar conditions, such as hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia. With the permission (and supervision) of a qualified healthcare practitioner, the keto diet can also be used safely as a long-term protocol for eliminating Type 2 diabetes (15).
At only 4g net carbs per cup, asparagus should be in everyone’s weekly rotation of low-carb side dishes. You can wrap it in bacon (and serve with aioli), simply grill it, or chop it up and add it to stir fries.
Lower-carb veggies, like cucumber, celery, asparagus, squash, and zucchini; cruciferous veggies, like cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts; nightshades, like eggplant, tomatoes, and peppers; root vegetables, like onion, garlic, and radishes, and sea veggies, like nori and kombu. The guidelines are simple: focus on dark, leafy greens, then the stuff that grows above the ground, then root vegetables.
Careful with snacking: One thing you have to keep in mind is that even while eating keto you can suffer from small insulin spikes. Less snacking means less of those giving you a better chance of losing weight.
This week we’re introducing a slight fast. We’re going to get full on fats in the morning and fast all the way until dinner time. Not only are there a myriad of health benefits to this, it’s also easier on our eating schedule (and cooking schedule). I suggest eating (rather, drinking) your breakfast at 7am and then eating dinner at 7pm. Keeping 12 hours between your 2 meals. This will help put your body into a fasted state.
I went to a baseball game with my partner last week and was really badly craving garlic fries because, well, garlic fries. French fries used to be my favorite food, to the point that I would regularly make meals out of them (like carne asada fries). So, I decided to just try one and see if its still the amazing nectar of the gods I always knew it to be, and spoiler alert: it wasn’t. I’ve come to realize this with all my old carby favorites. French fries don’t taste like much except for salt. I lost my love for them almost immediately, which ya ok this is great from a keto perspective of course, but internally it made me sad that I was hooked on something for my entire life and have only now realized its not that great (hello emotional relationship with food).
Take a multivitamin. “Because you are removing grains, the majority of fruit, some vegetables, and a significant amount of dairy from your menu, a multivitamin is good insurance against any micronutrient deficiencies,” says Jadin. Depending on what your individual overall diet looks like, Jadin says you might also need to add a calcium, vitamin D, and potassium supplement.
